The 490R is damn near a 57 Classic, it's a rounder, mid-pushed low output PAF style pickup with an alnico 2 magnet. It's other bridge match, the 490T is a great pickup too and I like the 490R/490T set better than the 57 Classics. doc

With dirt the 498 lacks the sizzling top end but has goodness elsewhere. WebOct 10, 2024 · I believe the 490r neck is an alnico II and the 498t is a hot alnico V... They are great sounding pickups (except for the silly, plastic covered ones that came on my 2013 LPJ). I found the 498t to be brighter than the JB, I like it better.
